From New Year's 2012 @ The Curve

One of the resolutions for me in 2012 should be to keep this blog updated more regularly than I have over the past few years. The main reason is that I feel the desire to have a place where some of my written work is left online. Maybe it's the disappointment that I felt during my holidays that I couldn't get a job writing or proofreading because of my lack of "work" that I can present to others. I'm not saying that I'm particularly great at writing but to have a place where I can somehow showcase what I've done would be better than not having one at all and the practice that I get just by writing itself should make me better at it.

So here's to new year's resolutions, may I keep this blog barely above flatlining and have a ton of great content published in 2012.

I shouldn't, but too late...

Hey, guys. Sorry for not updating this blog again. Was hit with a ton of work at the start of the semester and just didn't have the time to do anything with it and now I'm free enough to just post another picture.

To be honest, most of the work that I do on this blog is for background stuff. Not literally as the background of the blog, but on the workings of how I deal with the uploading of photos and to try out widgets and blog publishing/social media software.

Maybe I should give a few hints at the things that I'm trying out.

Photo uploading to Google Plus and the connection between that and Blogger.
Using RAW or higher megapixel jpeg images, instead of the lower megapixel jpegs that my camera is capable of because of storage restrains.
Learning how to use Adobe Illustrator and InDesign to create more visually impactful and eye-catching magazine styled posts.

That's about what it for what I've been up to recently. Might have to go on hiatus soon because of exams but hopefully I can come back with the fruits of my experiments.

It's tough being on fire for something. Whether it be a hobby, a career or even a lifestyle. After a while you start thinking about how much better something else could be and you start to lose interest in what you've been doing.

For me, that's what happened with photography and film-making. I just lost all the passion and drive for it but just having a short chat with people who were still in it was enough to just ignite that passion in me again.

A Long Wait

Life's been busy lately. I have a magazine due in less than a week, tutorials left to be done, people to meet. I'm not complaining though, I like that I don't have to be at home wondering what's coming up next but there are times where there are things that you would like to do that are not what you're supposed to do. Anyways, I'll try to keep this blog updated with pictures... That's the easiest way that I know how to keep it updated at the moment. So please bear with me.

Another attempt at a cinemagraph. This one I believe I could have done just a video and not much editing and just made it an animated gif. It's kinda blurring the lines a little about what is just animation becoming a picture and what is a picture becoming animated.

Well, after this I'll try an attempt to do something for mother's day. Might not get it up in time or worse comes to worse not being able to think of something for it at all but finger's crossed that something will pop up here in the coming days.

Cinemagraph

Saw this posted on Tested and I thought I would give it a try while I unwind from exam stress for the night. It's called a cinemagraph. What's the difference between this and an animated gif? I guess there isn't much, just that the idea that a cinemagraph is a still photograph with certain parts of the picture animated and an animated gif is just an animation put into picture form. This is my first try at it. Hopefully I'll be able to play around with it a little more and get better at producing one.

It's a somewhat tedious process and the picture below took about 3 hours to get it right. Have to find a workflow which will make it a little more efficient than the way that I did this one.

2011.04.23 - Bukit Tabur Hill Climb

It's been a while since my last post and to make up for it I've posted up some pictures from my recent adventures up Bukit Tabur. It's located close to where I'm staying right now at Wangsa Maju but not close enough that I'll be going up this hill on my own for regular escapades. It's more rocky than the hills that I'm used to back in Brunei but because it was rocky it was a lot less humid but it was more dangerous as there were certain parts where you had to climb down the sides of cliffs. I was a little impressed with myself because I had not expected that I would be fit enough in terms of upper arm strength and stamina to finish this climb. Maybe I should chalk it up to walking to campus everyday with at least a few kilos strapped onto me. The climb has ignited in me a desire to be more fit and also be more physically attractive than how I look now.

The Fool

Today is the first of April and of course April Fool’s Day. I’m not really one who openly celebrates this day nor did I want to play any sort of pranks or jokes on anyone today. Instead of being a fun day it has been a trying day, a culmination of all the stresses during the week which just ended up in tears.

It’s been a long week with me trying to catch up on my assignments and studies so that I’ll be prepared for a great cocktail of tests and due dates next week and I’ve also felt a little bit oppressed because of the hot weather and being a little hard on myself for not being able to make it to City Harvest’s Church Wide Prayer Meeting.

All this lead to a breakdown and honestly it’s been a while since my last breakdown. Most of the time I try to keep myself up by my own strength and there are times when your own strength fails and I only have one person to fall back on and that person is Jesus Christ.

I think that it’s like some sort of pride or maybe it’s because we just want to be so grown up that we say that nothing can phase us, that nothing can affect us anymore in this world and that we don’t really need anyone to help us up anymore. In truth we need God more than ever, especially when we try to be strong or composed to show that we’re in charge of this world because God is with us and nothing can be against us. That we should be wise in this world and not be a fool.

Reading the Bible, we see plenty of negative things associated with the word ‘fool.’ For example, in the book of Proverbs we see King Solomon praise repeatedly those who are wise and reprehend those who are foolish. We feel the need to be wise as well, we think to ourselves “Yeah, I don’t want to be like that person,” or “That’s right, I’m trying to be wise and not be like those fools.” We think about all these rules and what not to do’s that we become like machines. I think I’m guilty of that at times when I hold back during my worship of God because I’m afraid of looking like a fool.

But I’m reminded of King David, a man after God’s own heart, and in 2 Samuel 6: 21-22 from The Message: David replied to Michal, "In God's presence I'll dance all I want! He chose me over your father and the rest of our family and made me prince over God's people, over Israel. Oh yes, I'll dance to God's glory—more recklessly even than this. And as far as I'm concerned...I'll gladly look like a fool...but among these maids you're so worried about, I'll be honored no end." The words “I’ll gladly look like a fool” while dancing to God’s glory just summarizes so greatly that love for God that he’s unafraid to be so unhinged and just plain crazy for God and I’m encouraged by it to be more “crazy” myself for God.

So I just want to encourage anyone who reads this and feel that they are trapped when they worship God to break free. Love God with all your heart, soul, and strength. Don’t be afraid of acting like a fool for God!
